Well Done Daisy and Olivia
Well done to Dove class superstars Daisy and Olivia who joined the West End production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang when it came to the Marlowe Theatre over the Summer. They both took part in 17 shows over 10 days as sewer children and other characters. An amazing experience for both of them.
Meerkat Class Exhibition
The Meerkat class exhibition was a blast! Everyone had their own special subject activity to run, and the audience loved it! We even got the parents involved in quizzes and puzzles. We also made lovely cakes the day before and they all went down a treat! Thank you to all our parents and carers for coming and supporting us.

My prayer on Jesus’ Baptism, by Neve

Dear Heavenly Father,
May our baptism be the start of a new chance, just like Jesus’ baptism with John.
Let peace and forgiveness overcome us today.
Also let everyone be given a second chance whenever needed.
Today we had our final lesson in the unit about ‘Light’. We had great fun playing with the mirrors to see whether we could see things behind us, or round corners or above obstacles. Then we learned how to show our discoveries using diagrams.
Last week we planned an experiment to investigate what happens to the size of a shadow if the object or the light source move closer together or further apart. This week we got to carry out the investigation, and we also learned how to use a scattergraph to show our results.
Today we explored shadows. We looked at objects in envelopes and thought about what we could see and why we could see details and colour. We used the overhead projector to explore the different shadows we could make on the wall. We now understand how shadows are formed.
This term our Science topic is 'Light'. We started off by using pieces of yellow wool to represent rays of light. One person in each group was the 'source' (sun, candle, torch or whatever) and the others held the wool to show how the light travels from the source, to the object, and into a person's eyes.
As a fitting finale to our unit about electricity, we applied everything we have learned to make a working model. Some people made dolls' house rooms with lights (including a working switch) and some made a room with a burglar alarm worked by a pressure switch. One group even made a cinema, complete with backlit screen! The children all worked hard (and had lots of fun at the same time!) and should be very proud of their working models.
This term in Science we are learning about electricity. We started off by looking at cards with words about electricity on them. Then we tried to make links between the words, which involved a lot of scientific thinking and talking! Finally we transferred our work to a neat concept map in our books.
Mayan food lesson – Part 1
On Tuesday 3rd March, we taught the lesson about Mayan food. We created a PowerPoint presentation and included Mayan music. Everyone was shocked when they heard the music because it was really spooky. When we started the presentation, we explained we were teaching about the different types of foods and then the class started to prepare guacamole and salsa dips. They tasted
delicious and unique.
Mayan food lesson – Part 2
On Tuesday 3rd March, we also taught Hercules class how to prepare and make Mayan dips. We handed out the ingredients to each table and read out the instructions on how to make guacamole and salsa. They split themselves into two groups of three and immediately got started. One group on the table made salsa and the other made guacamole. After 40 minutes, it was time to judge!
Our judges were Kizzy, Georgie and Mr Hadlow. After a lot of tasting we
decided the winner for the guacamole was Meteor table and the winner for the
salsa was Satellite table.
Shocking Stelae are made
On Wednesday 4th March, we taught Hercules class how to make Mayan Stelae. We also had a parent helping and showing us how to handle clay. She also brought with her some tools to carve and create patterns in the clay.
The whole class enjoyed this lesson thoroughly and many were surprised at
how well they did. Mr Hadlow also attempted making a Mayan Stelae, but his
turned into a Mayan monster! Overall we think we did a good job planning and
creating this lesson.

In Hercules class this term, we will be studying the captivating world of Earth and Space. Alongside the usual English and Maths, we will be incorporating this theme into many of our other subjects such as Art, Geography, Science and DT (Foundation Curriculum).
We will also be studying the new computing curriculum and all children have been getting involved in sending e-mails as well as learning about coding! P.E and Games as ever is going from strength to strength and all children in the first two terms will be playing a range of sports including football, hockey, rugby, basketball and gymnastics. The children have showed a great enthusiasm for school so far and have produced some exceptional work. In particular in Art the children have produced some stunning painting of rockets and intergalactic backgrounds. They will be studying this topic until the end of Term 2 and it’s hoped that by that time our parents will be able to view some of the work which will be displayed in the classroom and also at our class exhibition. Overall we’ve had a brilliant start to the year and are looking forward to another hard-working couple of terms.
