Science

As part of their science work on Light, Octopus Class have been looking at the advantages and disadvantages of the sun. They looked at each others' pupils work to see how they react to light and learned about the effects of UV rays - including the dangers!

Prayer of the Week - 20th January

Dear God,

Thank you for all our senses and how lucky we are to have them.

Thank you for touch and how we can touch people and things like

your pet or teddy bear. I think it would be hard to not be able to

touch anything and that would be heart breaking.

As we do have touch, please let everyone use it carefully and gently,

not to hurt others.

Amen.

Homework challenge...

Octopus class had an exciting challenge for their homework this week: to write a letter to Mrs Butcher asking for every Friday off! She chose some super effective ones, and even sent us a reply!

Giant Sunflowers!

You may remember last year we gave out some sunflower seeds as Ms Butcher Headteacher challenge. Grace took on the challenge and her sunflowers grew over an amazing 3 metres tall!

Well done Grace, you obviously have very green fingers!

Inspirational Art!

We had a rather wonderful art lesson on Thursday afternoon. We wandered down to West Beach in beautiful sunshine (no rain!) to sketch beach huts for painting next week.

It was lovely to use our local environment as inspiration for artwork – we can’t wait to go again!

RE

This morning our classroom has turned into a Mosque! We took our shoes off and stood in lines, facing Mecca in Saudi Arabia. We learned about how Muslims pray (five times a day!) and compared it to Christians. “Allah Akbar” means God is great.

Good Listening Bees!

To help us understand how sound travels and changes over distance, we played a game in the hall using and alarm clock and blindfold! We have very good ears in Bee Class.

Cat in the Lap!

Miss Braid’s cat, Teddy, who is very friendly and loves children, often follows her to work in the morning. Recently he has spent the day listening to readers, helping with trick maths and checking that children are remembering capital letters and full stops. Thanks Teddy!

Term 4

Prayer of the week was written by Sophie in Bee Class

Dear God,

Thank you for creating the beautiful world we live in and for filling it with beautiful things like fruit trees, flowers, animals and people. Thank you also for the wonderful things we can’t see lease peace, love and happiness.

Amen

Bee Class had a super creative ‘Getting to know you Week!’

We made bee masks, designed totem poles based on our families, created a huge totem pole all about Whitstable, thought about what makes us unique and special and even wrote our own prayers all about things that are important to us.

We also had a visit (or two) from Miss Braid’s cat Poppy!
