This week's Brilliant Butterfly

Year 5 Parent Workshop
On Monday afternoon, Year 5 parents and carers were invited to come into school for an afternoon of learning led by the children. They took part in an Art activity based on our new unit 'Just an Illusion,' a science experiment that required them to create their own paper airplanes and they also considered how they could raise money for a charity of their choice. We hope that the adults enjoyed the experience as much as the children and more importantly, we hope that they were taught something! Thanks for coming everyone.

Young Leaders Award
Year 5 are taking part in the Young Leaders Award through the Archbishop of York. It is helping develop leadership skills and independence through a range of tasks and challenges.
The award says:

During Outdoor Adventure Activities, children will learn to work effectively with others to complete challenges and use a range of different methods to communicate effectively. The children will also spend time working on their basic fitness and understanding of it’s importance in relation to sporting performance.

Puffin Class: September 2021 - July 2022
English: Poetry, Creativity and Performance!
This week, the Year 5 Children enjoyed discussing and analysing Robert Louis Stevenson's poem My Shadow. With this inspiration in mind, the children worked in groups of twos to design and create their own shadows and stories. They were very excited to have the opportunity to narrate and perform their Shadow Stories to their class. We had some amazing adventures with super heroes, dragons, flying rabbits, football heroes, witches and magic cats!
Art: Pointillism
Puffin class have been learning the technique Pointillism. Pointillism is a technique of painting in which small, distinct dots of color are applied in patterns to form an image. Georges Seurat and Paul Signac developed the technique in 1886, branching from Impressionism.
Design & Technology
December 2021
This term Upper School have been designing and creating birdboxes. They started the beginning of term researching and measuring the technical details of their designs in their books. Mrs Hewitt with the help of a few family members cut and shaped MDF board into the correct sizes. The children then constructed and glued the designs and finally last week they were able to decorate the final project. Below are Magpie class with their designs.
