Sikh Temple Visit

During half term Callum and Ruben from Otters Class visited a Sikh Temple in Gravesend, known as Guru Nanak Dabar Gurdwara. The received a work welcome and were allowed to walk all around the inside of the enormous temple but only after having removed their shoes. They were also given a free vegetarian meal in the community canter.  The Temple has three prayer rooms and two halls. The Temple is open to the public and Callum and Ruben recommend everyone should go and visit.

Isla & Ruben: Petanque Tournament

Ruben and Isla in Otter Class played in a UK-France Petanque Tournament on Saturday 21 September. The tournament took place at The Railway Inn, Cobham. They were the only children to take part and were randomly drawn into teams of triples made up of adults from Kent and Dunkerque.

Their standard of play was impressive, Isla even winning a game with her triples 13-0! One coach commented, "it's great to see the next generation of young players, and when they're this good we see them as potential GB Junior Players."

Well done to Rupert in Lynx Class who achieved going up in his belt grading to a yellow at his martial arts class.

Motown Magic

Dorcas in Hedgehog Class had great fun watching "Motown the Musical" at The Marlowe Theatre.

 

She had an amazing opportunity to join 'Diana Ross' on stage and sing along with her and even sang a solo in front of a packed theatre! What an incredible experience Dorcas. Well done to Finley's Mum who managed to capture the moment.

The Grail Quest

Well done to Ted in Pine Marten Class and Rupert in Lynx who both completed The Grail Quest, a medieval themed obstacle course in Somerset. They had to take on 4km of obstacles! Amazing effort boys!

Street Dance

Daisy in Potter class belongs to Da Vinci Dance Studio and attends the Street Dance Beginners Class. Last week she won an award for showing great improvement in both her dancing and confidence. A wonderful and unexpected moment for her. Well done Daisy!

Oh what a Drama!

Well done to Liberty in Donaldson Class who passed her Trinity College Exam Grade 1 in Group Drama with a Distinction and was also awarded Performer of the Week at PQA Canterbury. A fantastic achievement Liberty.

A huge congratulations to Nathan in Donaldson Class who one Gold in the SERCHA Cub. He bought in all his medals and the trophy won by his club Herne Bay Rink Hockey Team.

Crisp Packet Recycling Scheme

Josh and Fletcher in Year 6 have started a crisp packet recycling scheme at school. There will be a box in the canteen where empty crisp packets can be placed. The scheme is running through their scout group, so they will take all the crisp packets there where they will be sent to Walkers for recycling. Well done boys!

Isla and Cleo: Gym superstars!

Cleo and Isla took part in the Kent Twinpiece Gymnastics Championships. Cleo received a Bronze Medal for her beam routine and they both won a silver medal each for their teamwork in the competition.

Rosie with Author Liz Pichon

Rosie in Potter Class was very excited to meet her favourite author Liz Pichon in Waterstones, Canterbury. Liz signed her new copy of Tom Gates - Mega Make and Do and Stories Too. Rosie asked her about the character Tom Gates and how she was inspired to write him.

Holly - The Alliance Turner Seaside Photography Exhibition

Well done to Holly who went to a private viewing to see her photograph being displayed in the Clore Learning  Studio at the Turner Gallery in Margate. The exhibition is open from Friday 24 May to 23rd June

 

There are lots of photographs from us and local schools who have taken inspiration from and reflected on their personal experience of living by the sea.

Fin & Riley - Scrumtastic!

Well done to Fin and Riley in Year 6 who took part in the Camber Under 11s two day Rugby Festival in May. They both play for Canterbury Rugby Club, who entered two teams and between them played 13 matches. They won all of their matches and the festival overall.

Noah and Polly - Rethink Mental Illness

In May Noah (Walliams) and Polly (Dahl) cycled from Whitstable to Canterbury and back with their dads to raise money for Rethink Mental Illness. The charity's aim is to increase awareness of mental health issues and Polly and Noah have so far raised £520 for the charity. Well done Noah and Polly!

Well done Emma and Talula in Year 6 winners of this year's May Day poster competition. They received their prizes at Whitstable Castle on May Day. Enjoy your art sets girls.

Iris - Promising Performer!

Congratulations to Iris from Dahl Class. Iris attends the Kent Youth Theatre (KYT) in Canterbury and won the 'Most Promising Performer' Award in her group. What a fantastic achievement, especially as it was her very first term there.

Ben - Bake and Cake Sale

Well done to Ben in Walliams Class who helped his Mum organise, bake and sell cakes at her work to raise funds for the new Kent and Medway Medical School, they raised £200! He was really enthusiastic and used it as a chance to practice his exaggerative persuasive language!

Isabel - Football Fantastic!

Well done to Isabel in Walliams Class. She plays for Whitstable Town Junior FC U10 Girls Team and was a founding member of the team when it formed as a handful of football enthusiastic girls a year ago. She has shown determination and dedication and was selected as the teams goalkeeper this season.

James Karate Kid!

A huge well done to James in Rowling Class. He has double graded again and is now a Purple Belt in Karate. James trains with Sensai John and is part of The White Dragons Marital Arts School.

Nathan - Hockey

Well done to Nathan in Donaldson Class. His hockey team the Herne Bay Rink Hockey qualified for the National Cup finals which take place in June.

Maia - Dancing Queen!

Congratulations to Maia in Rowling Class who took part in a dance competition at the King's Hall. She came first for her solo and won the People's Choice Award, as well as a dancing session at the Pineapple Dance Studio in London.

Albie and Lucas Reach for the Stars

Albie in Donaldson and Lucas in Potter class have represented the school football team and have both been invited to attend a six week trial with the Championship football club Millwall FC. After playing against playing against Millwall with Football Future, they both impressed the head coach so much that he asked them back for a trial. What a brilliant achievement and we hope they enjoy it.
