 Lower School Friday Meeting

Friday 26 June

Hi Otters,

I hope that you're all well and have had a good week. Yesterday, we enjoyed Sport's Day in school and I have to be honest, it was amazing! I love Sport's Day - it's one of my favourite days of the year and I thought Mr Hadlow came up with a fantastic set of activities for us to enjoy. Did any of you take part at home? Let me know which activity you enjoyed the most. I would be interested to know if any of you really enjoyed the 5 minute run!

As ever, keep up the great work and stay in touch - I always enjoy hearing from you all. Have a great weekend and I'll see you soon.

Quarantine Question Time!

What animal would Miss Braid like to keep as a pet in her back garden and is there a rainbow in her window? Does Mr Hadlow find it easier to teach Lynx Class or his own children and what is his embarrassing disco move! Can you guess what Mr Baker's favourite Lockdown Lunch is and what new skill has he learnt.  To find out, click on Mr Hadlow, Mr Baker and Miss Braid's Quarantine Question Time video as they reveal all!

Continuing on from our Science Week last term, please take a look at Water for Life: Southern Water website where you will find lots of educational resources, puzzles and quizzes. Oxford Owl: Free ebooks

Miss Braid has set up an account on the Oxford Owl website. The company that made this site are the people who publish all the "scheme" books we have at school so it will be particularly helpful for those of you that are on stage books. That said, the "e-books" on offer in their "e-library" are appropriate for those up to age 11 so you 'free readers' will find it useful too!

Get onto website using this link then click on "My class login" at the top of the page.

Log in using the username: Endowed Hedgehogs and the password: missbraid (Miss Braid originally set this up for her class before realising how many others may need this too!). You can browse the e-books by age range, series or theme. You can turn the pages just like in a real book, and even have a narrator read along with you! Such a great resource, I hope you get lots from it.

Elevenses with The World of David Walliams

Year 5 TT Rockstars Results

Hello all of you Times Tables Rockstars!

It's been four weeks since our TTRockstars Championship winners were announced and we've been keeping count of all the coins that you've earned since.

This term's class winners are Lynx Class with an impressive 96,361 coins.

A massive well done and thank you from all of the Lynx Class goes to Lily who earned 45,712 coins on her own! An amazing achievement, beating some of the other classes' combined scores! This means that Lily is our TTRockstars Queen for Term 5. Congratulations Lily!

Kurt in Year 3 put in a valiant effort, earning over 18,000 coins for 2nd place and Stuart in Year 6 finished 3rd with over 12,000 coins.

Well done to everyone who took part this term and don't forget to keep practising over the next few weeks! Perhaps the TTRockstar trophy can move from Lynx Class next term - it's becoming part of the furniture in there!   Mr Leone

Teacher Message Board

Friday 22 May

Thursday 21 May

Hi Otters,

I hope you're all well and enjoying the fantastic weather we've experienced so far this week. Here's hoping it stays for a while longer!

Thanks to Phoebe and to Nancy for getting in touch regarding our Thunk question on whether they would prefer

to go forwards or backwards in time. Your suggestions of being able to visit all of your future birthdays and being able to create a vaccine both made me smile so thank you.

In response to our Thunk on what the world would be like if elephants ruled it, there were some really great suggestions such as the whole world would be vegan, we'd all have to learn to eat with our noses and we would have water fights everyday. All made me smile to thank you - keep your ideas coming in!

Today's Thunk question is:

Is it more important to always be right or always be kind?

Discuss it with your families and let me know your thoughts. I really enjoy hearing from you all!

As ever, stay safe and let me know if you need help with anything.

See you soon, Mr Baker

Tuesday 19 May

Hi Otters,

I hope you're all well and enjoying the wonderful weather we're experiencing at the moment. My family and I have spent a majority of the past few days playing outside in our garden which has been fantastic.

I only heard back from Phoebe yesterday in response to the Thunk question and if she made a time machine, she said that she would prefer to go forward in time. I'm hoping that today I might hear from a few more of you in response to today's Thunk which is:

How would our lives be different if elephants ruled the world?

Have a think, discuss it with your families and let me know what you think. I reckon we'll be able to get some amazing ideas from this question!

As ever, keep sending me your work and please get in touch if you need any help with anything.

See you soon

Mr Baker

Well done to our very own artistic James in Otter Class who won the Cantium Business Solutions Christmas Card Competition with his lovely snowman drawing. As one of the top 3 designs he received a Christmas tree and decorations for his class and his own £15 WH Smith Voucher.

James design will become used on the official Cantium Christmas card which will be sent to all of their customers.

He was also commissioned by Ms Butcher to design the school Christmas Card which has been sent out this week.

Class Exhibition

Last week Donaldson class exhibition took place in the school hall. First, we sang and played recorders and glockenspiels to Mamma Mia by ABBA!

Next, six girls showed the parents some gymnastics and some boys did keepie uppie football – some Dads had a go too!

We had made a Kahoot quiz about Julia Donaldson who is our class author. The parents had to answer questions about her books.

Then finally we sang some Spanish songs. Miss Braid gave raffle tickets to parents who joined in!

By Ruby and Summer

Congratulations Nathan!

Nathan's roller hockey team, Herne Bay Rink Hockey played at the weekend and they have qualified for the National Cup finals which take place in Middlesborough in June.
