Supporting School Families

Umbrella Centre

Please see the message below from Whitstable Umbrella Centre for any of our families who would benefit from this support.

Dear all,

My name is Jo and I am one of the directors of the Umbrella Cafe CIC, I have CC'd in Charlotte Phillip who manages the office at The Umbrella Centre and will be applying for emergency funding for the Centre with regard to the Corona outbreak.

Our plan currently is to remain open throughout as a community resource (days/times TBC) - we will have two Fareshare deliveries per week - the Centre have as of yesterday installed a large fridge/freezer in the foyer to replace the small community fridge - this fresh and longlife produce will be able to be taken for free and open to anyone who is mobile and able to collect. We are taking in large donations to our Pay it Forward in the cafe and we are working in conjunction with Red Zebra to be able to provide free meals to those isolated at home via their DBS checked distribution drivers and anyone is able to collect meals from us who is mobile. Charlotte will also have food parcels to give out (days/times TBC) via the Foodbank voucher system.

Hopefully, this is all helpful information by itself.

Also, The Umbrella Centre & Cafe are going to apply this week for some of the emergency funding available and we could easily extend our reach to include families on low incomes and those who have children with pupil premiums. We have data, policies and the eligibility ready but we are today reaching out to local schools to see what you are wanting to put in place and to see if we can work together and help or if you will have this provision sorted within the school.

Please do let me know.

Thank you.

Kind regards, Jo Verney
