Art Week: Shining Together Through Art

Pop Art is a modern art movement from the 1950s and 60s that emerged in Britain and the US and is characterised by its use of imagery from popular culture, such as advertising, comics and celebrity, to challenge the exclusivity of fine art.  Key features include bright, bold colors, graphic styles, and techniques like screen-printing and collage to mimic mass-produced items. Prominent artists include Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein, known for their iconic works like soup can prints and comic panel-style paintings.

ART: Peter Thorpe

Adromeda class have been inspired by Peter Thorpe's Rocket Paintings today in art.

Peter Thorpe has worked as a commercial artist since 1976. Specializing in illustration and design, he has created book covers for many publishers, including HarperCollins, Warner Books, Penguin Random House, Macmillan, Simon and Schuster and St. Marten's Press. In 1988 he became the Design Director of the Space Fronteir Foundation. A space exploration fan since childhood, Thorpe started a series of Rocket Paintings for members and friends of the Foundation. In the ensuing years the series has grown to include fans from around the world.
