Macaw Class: September 2024 - July 2025
Special Screening of Kensuke's Kingdom
On Tuesday, Year 5 went to London to have a screening of Michael Morpugo's Kensuke's Kingdom. We watched the new animation at the BFI and thoroughly enjoyed the adaptation. After lunch, we were so thrilled to have a wonderful talk from Michael Morpurgo and Frank Cottrell-Boyce where they discussed the process of turning a well-loved book into a fantastic film. The children then had the opportunity to ask them questions too! Once we'd finished our talk, we went on a tour of Westminster, 10 Downing Street and Buckingham Palace too! We even saw the Royal helicopter take off! Mrs Blinston Jones
Science:
Testing various materials to see if they are conductors or insulators
Geography/Art: Day of the Dead
In Year 5 we have been creating our own South American Day of the Dead inspired masks. We have loved using modrock for these and have now painted them in bright vibrant colours inspired by the rainforest.
Harvest Festival
Year 5 led worship on Wednesday celebrating the Harvest Festival. They read poems created showing our appreciation for the food we receive and giving thanks to God for all he has created. They spent some time explaining how our food donations will be sent to the Canterbury Food Bank for those less fortunate to receive.
Book Buddies
Tarsier Class enjoyed a little visit to Macaw Class on Wednesday afternoon to read with them. Both classes had a great time and the Year 6 children loved hearing the Year 3 children read.
Poetry Slam!
On Wednesday Macaw class took part in their first poetry slam. Rainforest songs, so far in Year 5 poems and a fabulous adaptation of the three little pigs created a wonderful afternoon. Well done to all the children who took part!
