Cassiopeia Class: September 2025 - July 2026

Earth and Space

Today, Cassiopeia Class turned science into a delicious hands-on adventure using Oreo cookies to explore the 8 primary moon phases!

By twisting, scraping and designing their cookies, the children creatively modelled how the Moon’s appearance changes as different amounts of its surface are illuminated by the Sun and viewed from Earth. Each Oreo became a tasty representation of lunar science in action.

Cassiopeia brought learning to life this week as children explored 3D shapes using toothpicks and marshmallows. By building their own models, children developed a hands-on understanding of the properties of shapes, including faces, edges and vertices. A creative way to make maths fun!

Year 5 Maths: Cassiopeia and Andromeda creatively used tape and their desks to make different shapes. They measured and found the sum of the angles to investigate the relationship between the number of sides and the sum of the interior angles. The children really enjoyed this hands-on activity exploring mathematical ideas in a practical and engaging way.

Cassiopeia class continued their term theme of ‘Beside the Sea’ using the art technique of quilling, which involves rolling, shaping and glueing thin strips of paper to create textured designs. The children explored patterns and colours creating imaginative pieces inspired by waves, shells and sea creatures.

Cassiopeia Class by the Sea!

Last week, Cassiopeia Class took learning beyond the classroom and onto the beach as part of our ‘Beside the Seaside’ art!

The children explored the shoreline, collecting pebbles and natural treasures to create their very own stunning pebble art. What a fantastic way to learn, create and be inspired by the world around us!

Pop Art is a modern art movement from the 1950s and 60s that emerged in Britain and the US and is characterised by its use of imagery from popular culture, such as advertising, comics and celebrity, to challenge the exclusivity of fine art.  Key features include bright, bold colors, graphic styles, and techniques like screen-printing and collage to mimic mass-produced items. Prominent artists include Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein, known for their iconic works like soup can prints and comic panel-style paintings.

Congratulations to our 'Young Artist of the Year 2025' run by a local business We Sell By The Sea this summer.

The aim was to design a monster and the winning entry would have their creation made into a real 3D soft toy monster for their window display. Mr Toggle the monster was displayed in the store window next to the original design.
