Giraffe Class: September 2026 - July 2027
PE Days: Tuesday & Friday

30 September
The children have been learning about structures, with a particular focus on bridges. They explored how structures are constructed, stiffened and strengthened and learnt about different types and designs of bridges. To put their learning into practice, the children had great fun designing and building their own bridges using spaghetti. They experimented with different shapes and construction methods.

17 September
Giraffe Class had great fun hot-seating characters from the book Rosie Revere, Engineer. They enjoyed taking on different roles and answering questions in character. It was a fantastic way to develop their understanding of the story and build confidence in speaking and listening.

15 September
Monkton Nature Reserve came in and gave a delightful talk about the reserve and all the different species of animals and insects that live there. She listened carefully to the children’s questions and brought in some examples from nature for the children to see. The children really enjoyed learning about the wildlife and were excited to see the nature examples up close.

8 September
Our Y3 Orca and Giraffe classes took their maths learning outdoors!
The children had lots of fun using hands-on manipulatives to explore hundreds, tens and ones. They built numbers, grouped objects into tens and hundreds, and worked together to develop their understanding of place value.
Learning maths outdoors made the experience fun, practical and engaging, helping the children see how numbers can be represented in different ways.
Forest School at the Beach
What a fantastic day on Monday for our Year 3 Orca & Giraffe Classes, who experienced ‘Forest School’ at their local beach for the very first time.
The children enjoyed exploring their local surroundings and discovering the wonders of nature. They worked together, built confidence and had lots of fun along the way!
