  • Year 4 Kent Life Trip

    Year 4: Kent Life Trip

We set off very excited to be on our school trip, the coach driver got us in the festive spirit (which Miss Dooley loved and Mrs Stanley found a little too early!) playing Heart Christmas Radio. Once we arrived, we met our first Anglo Saxon of the day and dropped our bags at the lunch station. We were quickly whisked to our first workshop of the day. Workshops including Saxon life, Spinning a yarn, Nine Morris Men, meeting Alfred the Great, fun at the farmyard and Saxon tools and weapons. Spinning a yarn enabled us to learn how Anglo Saxons made their own clothes from sheep's wool: we learnt how the process began with sheep shearing all the way through to hand spinning the wool to create a yarn and how the yarns were woven together. Nine Morris men was a team game played with yellow and red counters, with teams competing to take each others' counters and win the board by moving counters to create three in a row.

The farmyard animals were met with much excitement by the children and they loved being able to stroke the goat even if he did get a little over zealous with Alfie! As with every school trip, we were asked several times when lunchtime was! Lunch was a welcome opportunity to refuel and visit the play park which the children loved! So after learning so much from our hands on day, we boarded the coach to return home far more knowledgeable about the Anglox Saxon era and hooked into our new history topic.

Our coach driver had even decorate the coach with christmas lights and bunting on our return so Miss Doooley was thrilled!

Year 5 had a lovely morning on Monday when they went to the library with war poetry. They spent time with local senior citizens and shared their fantastic poems with them. They then spent time reading with each other too.

Year 6 took a wreath to the war memorial outside the library and took part in the service there.

    Football News

On Thursday, the boys’ and girls’ A teams got their league seasons underway at Davington. The boys were playing the reigning champions and in an end to end game, they were unfortunate to lose 3-0. However, they showed plenty of promise for the season ahead. The girls were also involved in a very exciting game and showed great resilience to twice come from behind to earn a 2-2 draw with goals from Bella and Matilda. Well done to all involved.
