  • Anti-Bullying Week & Children in Need

    Fri 19 Nov 2021

    Anti-Bullying Week

Anti-Bullying Week is an annual UK event which aims to raise awareness of bullying and to highlight ways of preventing and responding to it. This year the theme is ‘One Kind Word’, emphasising the positive impact a small gesture or comment can have on someone else’s day.

Kindness is more important today than it has ever been. The isolation many of our children experienced through this last year has underlined how little acts of consideration can break down barriers and brighten the lives of the people around us.
This is one of the reasons, we have decided to use ‘One Kind Word’ as our theme for all our Anti-Bullying activities, lessons & Collective Worship this week.

We will be supporting Children in Need on Friday 19th November and children can come to school in fancy dress for a £1 donation. It doesn’t have to be a full outfit, just non-uniform with some Pudsey ears would be great!

Please see the website for the letter sent out on 11 November for further details and information about how we could win £500

Last year Miss Taylor took on a running challenge for Children in Need—with different staff joining her for laps of her run around the school grounds during the day. This year staff will be taking on another challenge and we are hoping to borrow a rowing machine or exercise bike if anyone is able to lend us one for the day?

    Lest We Forget

This morning, at 11am Pupils from Magpie and Starling Class gathered around   Whitstable War Memorial to lay wreaths in commemoration to the fallen. The school fell silent on the eleventh hour to honour those who served and continue to serve their country.

During class, the children discussed the significance of the Poppy and designed memorial benches and wrote poetry.

"The poppy is the enduring symbol of remembrance of the First World War. It is strongly linked with Armistice Day (11 November), but the poppy's origin as a popular symbol of remembrance lies in the landscapes of the First World War. Poppies were a common sight, especially on the Western Front."
