    Worship at Home Resources

Canterbury Diocese have collected together a number of Worship at Home resources, written to support families in exploring worship at home; to help you understand the structure of worship, whilst providing you with prayer activities, Bible stories and questions to reflect on. These will help support the Endowed families who may be missing the fellowship and support of the church.

This year Holy week is going to be different for all of us, so these resources are designed to help you reflect and celebrate at home. Starting with Palm Sunday they will allow you and your family to explore the events of Holy Week through the creation of an Easter garden. Every day there are suggestions for things to do and think about, and ideas on how you can create your own Easter garden.

  • Endowed Team 1

    Thu 26 Mar 2020

    Thank you Team 1

A huge thank you and well done to 'Team 1' who have been in school all this week.

The children who have been in school have been making the most of the gorgeous sunshine and have been creatively enjoying activities 'far apart!' including lots of gardening, football, cricket, Joe Wicks PE, found pet caterpillars and lots more.

Katie and Lisa did a Kahoot quiz about animals so they learnt quite a bit from that. Children have planted an edible garden so we look forward to seeing how they grow in the coming weeks.

Ms Butcher also had a run with Sam and James yesterday - they completed a mile around the playground.

    Stay Safe and keep smiling.

    Help within the Community

    Dear Friends

As you will no doubt be aware national guidance about COVID-19 is changing on a daily basis. The council will be publishing a statement in the next couple of days but in the meantime, as a local councillor, I’ve been in touch with a number of residents and voluntary groups worried about what happens to people in need of food. This is a summary of what I have found and think you should be aware of in Whitstable.

    1. Isolated and vulnerable individuals you are aware of who may need help should be directed to Red Zebra (01227 263 313/admin@redzebra.org.uk) who are redeploying their Social Prescribing Service to carry out welfare calls amongst the 850 people they already have registered as with limited transport in the area and anyone else that we identify. Red Zebra will have access to a stock of food parcels from Canterbury Foodbank which there DBS Checked staff can deliver.

    1. Individuals wishing to volunteer to support the effort should also contact Red Zebra(01227 263313/admin@redzebra.org.uk). They are immediately in need of people to help with the welfare calls (freeing up DBS checked staff to do delivery) and may deploy them in picking up stock from the Foodbank and other tasks as necessary. I am in touch with the leads of many of the local COVID-19 Community response Facebook Accounts and will be encouraging for them to encourage people to volunteer here first, rather than necessarily visiting vulnerable people in their homes without proper safeguarding supports.

    1. Individuals in need of food and not self-isolating should be encouraged to contact Clare @ Canterbury Foodbank who will signpost them to where they can pick a parcel up. You can email Clare at signposting@canterburyfoodbank.org. Upon speaking to Clare, food can be collected from the Umbrella Centre or on arrangement from their central warehouse

    1. People wishing to donate food or hygiene products for those people in need should continue to fill the yellow bins in town. These are still being collected and the contents distributed.

    1. People wishing to donate money can do so in person at a number of the ‘pay it forward’ schemes at the Umbrella Café, Revival @ the Horsebridge, Café Eighty Nine in Tankerton High Street at the café at Riverside Church on the Thanet Way. These schemes are already well utilised by people on low incomes who may be most affected and some will be looking to continue to offer take-away services even if their main business has to close.

We have no idea of how the demand in Whitstable may grow over the next couple of weeks but please feel free to contact me if there is anything I can do. I will continue to share information I receive and co-ordinate where it is useful. I’ll be posting to local Facebook groups this evening making this information accessible; any way you can share the information locally would be great.

    Yours truly,

     Councillor Chris Cornell

    Umbrella Centre

Please see the message below from Whitstable Umbrella Centre for any of our families who would benefit from this support.

    Dear all,

My name is Jo and I am one of the directors of the Umbrella Cafe CIC, I have CC'd in Charlotte Phillip who manages the office at The Umbrella Centre and will be applying for emergency funding for the Centre with regard to the Corona outbreak.

Our plan currently is to remain open throughout as a community resource (days/times TBC) - we will have two Fareshare deliveries per week - the Centre have as of yesterday installed a large fridge/freezer in the foyer to replace the small community fridge - this fresh and longlife produce will be able to be taken for free and open to anyone who is mobile and able to collect. We are taking in large donations to our Pay it Forward in the cafe and we are working in conjunction with Red Zebra to be able to provide free meals to those isolated at home via their DBS checked distribution drivers and anyone is able to collect meals from us who is mobile. Charlotte will also have food parcels to give out (days/times TBC) via the Foodbank voucher system.

Hopefully, this is all helpful information by itself.

Also, The Umbrella Centre & Cafe are going to apply this week for some of the emergency funding available and we could easily extend our reach to include families on low incomes and those who have children with pupil premiums. We have data, policies and the eligibility ready but we are today reaching out to local schools to see what you are wanting to put in place and to see if we can work together and help or if you will have this provision sorted within the school.

    Please do let me know.

    Thank you.

    Kind regards, Jo Verney

    Thu 19 Mar 2020

    Dear Parents and Carers

You may be aware of the news that has just been released regarding the closure of schools by the Prime Minster.

We are writing to let you know that we are assimilating the information just released and awaiting further advice from the Department of Education on exactly how we, as a school, are to put in place the measures outlined.

As soon as we have this information, we will contact you again to let you know how this will apply to you and your children.  School will be open as normal tomorrow and Friday to all pupils who are not self-isolating and we will provide further information as early as possible tomorrow.

We thank you again for your understanding and patience.  We only receive the same information as you do via news channels, so we are now awaiting further advice on how to proceed.

    Kind regards

    Rochester Cathedral Trip

As part of our Science week, on Tuesday I took 32 Year4 children to a special STEM event at Rochester Cathedral. We found out all about plants as medicines, farming and variation on crops, diversity due to chromosomes and much more! We had a great time in a beautiful setting.

    Netball News

The Netball team played their first match against Davington on Thursday. Everyone was a little nervous to begin with and Davington pulled away and at half time the Endowed were losing 8-4. A superb last quarter from all the players, George C scoring 3 goals and whole team defensive play denying Davington any goals, saw the Endowed closing the gap. Unfortunately time ran out and Davington edged the final result winning by 1 goal. Endowed 7-8 Davington.  Star Player: Stuart
